The green building spotlight will shine on Dallas early next month when the USGBC North Texas Chapter and the Home Builders Association of Greater Dallas team up to present the 2nd Annual Texas Green Building Summit Feb. 9. The one-day conference will include a keynote address by USGBC president and CEO Rick Fedrizzi and presentations by a full slate of experts covering a range of topics related to new and existing residential and commercial buildings. Sessions will focus on green certification programs, quality and building performance, green building legal issues, lessons learned from zero-energy homes, and the latest on building science.

Organizers expect 1,200 green building professionals at this year’s event, which grew from a 2009 alliance between the U.S. Green Building Council and the HBA of Greater Dallas formed as part of the USGBC’s LEED for Homes Affiliate Program. According to Phil Crone of the HBA of Greater Dallas, the affiliation gives Dallas HBA members access to technical resources and education and training beyond the organization’s own Green Built Texas program, and helps the organization in its mission to accelerate the growth of green building markets within the state by providing three certification programs for its members to choose from.
