First Online Green Building Conference Begins Jan. 12

Can’t make it to Las Vegas this month for the International Builders’ Show? The New Jersey Builders Association is offering a good alternative with the Virtual Green Build Event, an online trade show and conference that builders can attend from their home or office.
Accessible via computer January 12-14, the industry’s first green building virtual conference will feature prominent keynote speakers, 20 seminars, and a virtual exhibit hall. Presenters include representatives of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and the EPA.
NAHB spokesperson Calli Schmidt predicts this will be the first of many more online educational events geared toward the green building community.
“I think that there will be more and more ‘virtual’ events on a number of topics because it’s less time-intensive and less costly, and the technology to do these sorts of online conferences continues to advance,” she says. “There will still be a place for ‘real’ conferences and trade shows because you can’t completely replicate the in-person networking or the home tours and things like that … but I think online events like these will find a pretty important niche.”
The live, online-only event will feature the use of avatars within a cutting-edge, interactive Web platform, according to a release. Registration for the three-day event is $150. The program schedule is available here.
