Texas Green Building Summit To Be Held Feb. 9

The green building spotlight will shine on Dallas early next month when the USGBC North Texas Chapter and the Home Builders Association of Greater Dallas team up to present the 2nd Annual Texas Green Building Summit Feb. 9. The one-day conference will include a keynote address by USGBC president and CEO Rick Fedrizzi and presentations by a full slate of experts covering a range of topics related to new and existing residential and commercial buildings. Sessions will focus on green certification programs, quality and building performance, green building legal issues, lessons learned from zero-energy homes, and the latest on building science. Stone Industry Launches Sustainability Initiative, Plans Certification Program

In partnership with the University of Tennessee, the Marble Institute of America, the Building Stone Institute, and the rest of the natural stone industry are developing an independent life-cycle analysis for stone products, initiating industry-wide solutions to reduce life-cycle impacts, and developing mechanisms for communicating environmental performance to the green building market. Once these missions are met, the group will utilize life-cycle assessment to study impacts over stone’s lifetime and in comparison to other building materials and, perhaps most importantly, will work to create sustainability guidelines on a global basis.
